My journey as a soccer mom began when my oldest daughter turned five and continued for 24 years, until my youngest finished college. As a Soccer Mom, life in the household was hectic, every week, for my husband and I. We had two girls, two elite soccer players. One was a defender, and the other an attacking player, and throughout most of their life, they played for two different clubs, located miles away from each other. Weekly life in our home entailed the logistics, transportation, and chaos, of taking them to weekly practices, games, and sometimes tournaments which were in and out of our State.

Being a Soccer Mom forced me to be at the soccer field, multiple times per week for years. I saw my girls train. Watched other girls and boys teams train, and observed coaching sessions by parents, amateur coaches, professional players, professional licensed coaches, and top licensed amateur coaches. Oh, and I should mention I observed many coaches in all the categories I just mentioned who either completely dismissed the teaching of feints / moves to players, or minimized technical skills as foundational and essential, or whose focus was winning at all costs to bolster their self-image regardless of how this limited my girls or other players' development.

A highlight of my oldest daughter's training and playing years included her working with a Skills 2 Score™ coach. He made playing fun, yet demanding, and she became much more lethal as a defender although she was physically small. He developed her defensive ability, technical skills including her ability to transition into attack, “take players on,” pass, score and create goal scoring opportunities, and she was enjoying being a difference maker.
